Van Gogh in
Leurs
Wilhelmus Johannes Leurs (1828–1895) was a framer and art supply dealer from whom Vincent sometimes made purchases.
When he was living in Drenthe and Nuenen, Vincent continued to have paint delivered from The Hague by Leurs as well as his other dealer, Furnée. He regularly wrote to Theo about debts he owed to Leurs. Vincent sent several paintings from Nuenen for Leurs to hang in the window of his shop at Molenstraat 5. Leurs took the works on consignment; if he made a sale, it would resolve part of Vincent’s debt. He tried to sell the works to various people, including Vincent’s old employer, Tersteeg, and the art dealer Van Wisselingh, but they were uninterested.
