When Vincent worked at Stokes’s school, he lived with the other assistant teacher and four pupils in a house on the same square as the school. There was a patch of grass in the centre where the pupils played in the afternoons. On moving in, Vincent wrote to Theo that his room needed prints on its walls. He probably covered them with art, as he had done in his lodgings in London and The Hague.
